NEW SOUTH STREET CHARGING POINTS

Havant Borough Council has partnered with ChargePoint Services to provide three new electric vehicle chargers in the borough – enabling residents and visitors to charge their electric cars quickly and efficiently on the go.

The 50Kw+ charge points, which are part of the GeniePoint Network, can be found in council owned car parks on South Street, Emsworth, and Tidworth Road, Leigh Park. An additional charger in Wellington Way car park, Waterlooville, is set to be completed next month. Each rapid charger is easily accessible and is compatible with any electric vehicle.

Councillor Tim Pike (second left) said: “We want to encourage the switch to electric vehicles to reduce the carbon footprint of transport and improve air quality locally in high traffic areas. I am delighted that we have been able to provide rapid chargers that will future-proof our infrastructure, and benefit residents and visitors who own or are considering owning electric vehicles.”

Councillor Lulu Bowerman (front right),  ward councillor for Emsworth said: “We want to make it easier for people to use electric vehicles across the borough. Local businesses should see the benefit of these new charge points as visitors ‘shop and dine’ while charging their vehicle.”

Alex Bamberg, Managing Director, ChargePoint Services, said: “ChargePoint Services are highly focussed on supporting local councils in their efforts to provide infrastructure to facilitate the change to electric vehicle transportation in their area. With each additional local authority providing this critical service, the GeniePoint Network spreads even further across the UK providing access to the UK’s fast growing, reliable rapid charging network”.

To use these charge points residents and visitors will need to join the free GeniePoint Network prior to connecting their vehicles.  Once signed up the network currently offers a competitive tariff of 30p/kWh plus £1 connection fee.
