Hayling Island

'Changing Years' Project

Learn how Hayling developed rapidly  between 1919-1946 from a rural farming community. As  the railway brought visitors to the seaside in the 1930s, holiday camps were springing up making the Island a popular holiday resort.

The war years saw military personnel billeted throughout the Island with hundreds accommodated at these camps, preparing to play a pivotal role in the D-Day landings.

HI U3A are  presenting an exhibition and producing a book covering  the social development and other significant changes during these years.

This event will be held at the British Legion, PO11 9ES from Nov 2nd - Nov 17th when the head of Hayling College will launch the book. Do come along and gain a fascinating insight into Hayling's history and  how much  changed at this time.
