Mothers Day Treat - Joy to Create

Make this beautiful fabric flower to delight your mum this Mothers Day.

You will need:
5 pieces of lightweight cotton fabric at least 14cm square
Sewing thread, needle
Button
3cm circle of felt
Finding (brooch back)
Card, scissors, iron

  1. Using a compass draw a 14cm diameter circle on the card, cut out and use this to mark out the circles on the five pieces of fabric. Cut them out.
  2. Fold each fabric circle in half, press then fold each into quarters and press again.
  3. Thread the needle with double thread and sew a running stitch along the curved edge of one folded circle. Pull up the stitches as tightly as possible and secure the end to hold gathers in place.
  4. Without cutting the thread repeat step 3 and join the next petal.
  5. Continue until you have all 5 petals joined. Fasten the two ends together to form the flower.
  6. Close the hole by using straight stitches across the hole evenly to keep the circle shape.
  7. Attach a button of your choice. I have used a covered button in a contrasting fabric.
  8. Attach the finding (brooch back) to the circle of felt and attach the felt to the back of the flower.

You can vary this design by using different fabrics and buttons and even add afew small beads.
