Berewood sees a flood free spring

A few editions ago, Postcode Publications reported that Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) were installed at Berewood. Following the heavy rain and extensive flooding across the UK over the last few months, we are delighted to tell you that SUDS did its job, and despite the wettest winter ever recorded, Berewood remained flood free:

Here is why
Sustainable Drainage Systems work by mimicking the natural process of water absorption and dispersion, by storing surface water and decreasing flow rates to waterways. The installation of swales; landscaped basins, wetlands and ponds help to collect, reduce and control the flow of water as well as acting as natural, picturesque landscape features.

In February, the BBC News team visited Waterlooville to report on the installation and effect of SUDS at Berewood. Local Councillor and Farmer Neil Cutler said, “We don’t seem to have floods here” adding that he “assumed work at Berewood sees a flood free spring Waterlooville is making a difference”. John Beresford, Development Director at Grainger said, “Obviously, over this terrible winter there has been a lot of coverage about flooding in the UK. We have future-proofed our site by installing SUDS and the recent weather has put this to the test. Berewood remained un-flooded and we are extremely pleased with the results”.
