Cemeteries Summer Spruce Up

Volunteers with the Havant Cemeteries Project spent a sunny summer’s day giving New Lane cemetery a fantastic spruce up. The garden around the holocaust memorial was weeded, trimmed and more gravel was added to act as mulch. Ivy and other weeds were removed from the flint walls to prevent their roots from damaging the walls.

The wildlife was also enjoying the summer weather. We saw many butterflies including gate keeper, meadow brown and red admiral. Robins and gold finches were Cemeteries Summer Spruce Up flitting around and the meadow was abuzz with the sound of grass hoppers and crickets.

The Conservation Volunteers time supporting the project is coming to an end shortly. However, all the good work will be continued by the volunteers who have formed their own community group, Friends of Havant Cemeteries.
