Emsworth pupils receive offers to go to Oxford or Cambridge University

The Portsmouth Grammar School has celebrated its best results for five years as good news is received by fourteen pupils who applied for places at Oxford and Cambridge. Candidates have been successful right across the range of subjects – from Theology to Music, Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Medicine. They will take up their places in September

“The selection process to these universities is very challenging and it’s particularly pleasing to see numbers of PGS pupils being offered places rising steadily year on year. All of these pupils, along with their colleagues in Year 13 are working incredibly hard to achieve their university places of choice and I am very proud of them all,” said James Priory, Headmaster.

Amongst the Oxbridge hopefuls are two pupils from Emsworth including sailor Jemima Lawson. Jemima is the current 420 British National Champion and has recently started training with the RYA Podium Potential Squad. “I was so thrilled to get the offer from Cambridge, though the hard work now really starts to ensure I get the grades they’ve asked for,” said Jemima. “It is definitely a challenge to balance my sailing, which I love, with studying and it’s been great that my family and everyone at school is so supportive to help me achieve my ambitions.” Jemima has been offered a place at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge to study Medicine.

Charlotte Kent, who joined The Portsmouth Grammar School from Funtington Primary School has been offered a place to study English and Italian at Somerville College, Oxford.
