Harbour speeding prosecution

Chichester Harbour ConservancyA man was successfully prosecuted last month for speeding in Chichester Harbour, travelling at 22 knots in a large Rigid Inflatable Boat.

He was fined £750 and ordered to pay costs in excess of £1,000. This follows four other speeding prosecutions in 2014 and a further four cautions for speeding and one for causing excessive wash.

The speed limit of 8 knots in force within the Harbour is to ensure the safety of mariners.

Harbour Master, Richard Craven commented ‘we are responsible for ensuring safety in the Harbour. The Court has sent a powerful message to those that flout the speed limit and I hope this fine deters similar behaviour in the future.’
