HAYLING BILLY BOOK ON SALE

November 2nd marked the fiftieth anniversary of the last public train service of the Hayling Billy. For many people today the memory of riding behind the Terrier engines on their way for a day on a sandy beach is something they cannot forget. The journey was a treat in itself especially the excitement of going over the bridge and probably throwing stones in to the sea below. Proof of this nostalgia was shown when an estimated 1,000 people attended a recent commemorative exhibition at the Spring Arts and Heritage Centre in East Street, Havant, to see a wide range of pictures, models and other memorabilia. As part of this celebration Ralph Cousins has produced a booklet containing over 130 illustrations entitled ‘The Hayling Island Branch line’ at the modest price of £5 which may be obtained at the Centre.’
