Hello, my name is Chekov and I am one of the resident cats at The Cat & Rabbit Rescue Centre.
In my article this time I want to tell you about two orphaned kittens who arrived separately but are now best friends. Little Chris arrived at CRRC after he was injured by a dog at only one day old which result in large area of skin on his back becoming unattached. He was rushed straight to our vet who treated the wound, but it was still touch and go because there was such a high risk he could get an infection in the wound. He had to wear a little compression sock on his wound in the hopes it would reduce the risk of infection getting in. I am pleased to say that Little Chris is now 5 weeks old and thriving under the care of my animal care team. His wound has been healing nicely and he only has a few scabs left and no longer needs to wear his compression sock. Little Chris now lives with another of our orphaned kittens called Pinky. Pinky arrived with us when she was one day old with her siblings after they were found in a bush. Sadly, after deteriorating quickly Pinky’s siblings were diagnosed with a bacterial infection and they didn’t make it. Pinky is a little fighter and against all the odds she continues to flourish, she has had a few ups and downs but is now 6 weeks old.
Together they make the sweetest pair, and it is so lovely they will have each other to grow up with and learn boundaries. They are both now eating solid food and developing their little personalities. My staff have been so amazing caring for them, at the beginning they were being hand feeding every two hours and given medication daily so it’s such a relief they are now growing up and becoming more independent. I am always in such awe of their dedication to the animals and I am so happy these two have been given the best chance at a happy life.
See you next time. Love, Chekov.
PET OF THE MONTH - Merritt
This month we would love to introduce you to a very handsome male cat called Merritt. Merritt is 5 years old and has been with us since June after he had been living as a stray. When he arrived, he had a very nasty injury to his eye. After surgery and medication, we are really happy that is eye injury has completely healed and he is ready to find his forever home. When he first arrived, he was a little bit wary of the staff, especially as he had to have a lot of treatment. However, he was always such a sweet boy and now he is no longer being treated he has really begun to show us what a lovely cat he is. Merritt is so friendly and loves to have a fuss made of him. As soon as you go in his pen, he will be straight over rubbing round you and he can be quite vocal to make sure you give him the attention he deserves. We feel Merrit would be best suited to a home with older or no children, no other cats but he could live with a dog.
If you think you may be able to offer Merritt a loving home please give the centre a call on 01243 967111 or visit our website www.crrc.co.uk.
