Emsworth Friday Art Group, who (under normal circumstances) meet weekly on Friday mornings at Emsworth Community Centre, completed a group project in February 2020, before lockdown. This involved selecting a painting – in this case a little known Salvador Dali called Vainants Nocturns or Evening Strollers – and dividing it into sections, each section then reproduced by a different member of the group. Media used were watercolour paint or pencils. Artists found it a real challenge to match the colours of the original which was in shades of purple, blue and cream, and to make sure all the separate sections aligned together, but enjoyed the challenge and the way this gave an insight into how a professional artist approaches colour and composition.
The resulting creation will be displayed at the Emsworth Community Centre once it reopens, and the group hope to be exhibiting as part of the Emsworth Art Trail 2021 at the same venue. The group can be contacted through Emsworth Community Centre.
