Lockheed Martin Help the Acorn Centre Bloom

The Acorn Centre. The centre is in the heart of the Wecock community with a huge amount of activities available, something for everyone, and always with the aim of improving life for all.  The Centre contacted Community First to see if they could get a team together to decorate the large hall and clear an overgrown patch of garden area. Lockheed Martin UK Rotary and Mission Systems have been helping local charities and organisations for many years, and were happy to take on the challenge at the centre. The team of eight employees enthusiastically threw themselves into the task. They redecorated the hall in no time then cut back and cleared the overgrown outside area, enabling the creation of a new garden area.

Ann Waters, the Chair of Trustees for the Wecock Community Association, was so pleased that Lockheed Martin had given up their time to help. “It’s amazing they have come to paint the most difficult room in the building for us. The amount of painting they have achieved today is incredible. The hall is now much more appealing. The work they have done in our outside area has inspired us to maintain and develop the garden space. We are very thankful to Lockheed Martin for their time.”

It was the first time that Hollie Wooden from Lockheed Martin had joined the team for a volunteer event, a morning that opened her eyes to the work going on locally. Hollie said, “Although you hear people say volunteering is an opportunity to give back to the community, coming to the Acorn Centre today has made me so much more aware of the little things we can all do to help. I think it is amazing that Community First are connecting us with valuable community organisations. I am keen to tell my friends and family about the value of volunteering and I would be happy to return to the Acorn Centre to help out in the future.”
