Champion Oliver Jermy wins gold in British Championships

Havant & Waterlooville Swimming Club’s 17-year old Ollie Jermy from Horndean, a next Commonwealth Games hopeful, scooped gold at the British Championships held in Glasgow from 9th- 13th July – he now stands to qualify for the Junior European Championships.

Ollie finished sixth in his heat, winning third fastest in the age 17-18 category. He clawed back to win gold after turning in 5th place on the breast stroke during his 400m Individual Medley (IM) final – with just 100 metres to go. He now faces a nailbiting wait to find out if he will be off to the Junior European Championships at the Optisport Swimming Stadium in Dodrecht in the Netherlands from 9 – 13 July.

Ollie has long been sponsored by top 25 UK accountancy firm, Wilkins Kennedy. Geoff Collis, Partner at Wilkins Kennedy, Portsmouth office, said: “We are thrilled to sponsor Ollie and he works tirelessly to constantly better himself. We are proud to support such a worthy local club and Ollie is sure to be the one to watch as a rising star for the future.”

Ollie’s mum, Mandy Jermy, said: “Ollie continues to face some tough challenges – including being the youngest in his 17/18 year old category, but takes all this in his stride. I am so proud of his win and we all have our fingers crossed for him for the next stages.”
