The objective of the course is to provide a general understanding of:

  • How the excavation is justified
  • What is involved in setting up an excavation
  • The processes used in the excavation itself
  • The post excavation analysis and reporting

At the end of this study day you should have a better appreciation of how excavations are organised. As well as making the experience more interesting you should have a better understanding of why you are asked to do things in certain ways, how what you are doing fits into the wider picture and why there are things that you never do.

Though it will not be possible to provide a real trench there will be practical elements to the day.
