Anti-smoking at The Hayling College

By: Florence Perkins, Georgia Jennings and Harriet Bennett Year 9

Last year, we participated in a 2 day antismoking workshop. We worked with 2 ladies from the smoke free Hampshire and Isle of Wight organisation studying the facts and effects of smoking. While we were there we looked in depth at the ingredients that cause many deaths each year. We also learnt how to help people resist the temptation which we took on board to continue to raise awareness in our school. The 20 influential pupils who participated were elected by their own peers after filling out a survey. Once we had completed the course we ran assemblies to raise awareness throughout the school. Everyone that took part found the project very interesting and beneficial.
