Bedhampton Folks in Harmony

Last minute voters and election volunteers were treated to an impromptu concert on voting day courtesy of Bedhampton choir, Folks in Harmony.

The A cappella choir practise in the Social Centre in Bedhampton and spent the evening rehearsing for the Bournemouth Music Festival as well as their concert on July 22nd. The choir were recent winners of the Portsmouth Music Festival’s Choir of the Day competition beating off very stiff opposition to lift the cup.

As the election wound up, and while electoral officers were putting away the polling booths and furniture, the choir treated them, and some lingering voters, to some of their repertoire which included perennial favourites, Islands in the Sun, Do you hear the People Sing and a medley of songs from the musical Oliver!

Choir founder and Chairman Fran May said, “We were delighted to entertain the election staff at the end of their long, hard day and it gave us a chance to perform before our concert.”

The mixed choir, which was founded in 2012, is putting together a programme of songs from the musicals, classic pop songs as well as some individual performances of favourite songs from members of the choir. The concert is at 7.30pm on Saturday 22nd July at The Church of the Resurrection in Drayton. Tickets cost £5 and together with information can be obtained through the website www.folksinharmony.co.uk or by ringing Rosie Willoughby on 023 9259 9419
