Hayling Island Community Centre

The Centre is looking very festive with our Christmas trees and decorations in place. There are plenty of Christmas events and parties in the lead up to the big day, and it is such a lovely time of the year to get together and celebrate.

If you are on your own on Christmas Day, or don’t fancy cooking, come and join the fun at the Community Centre. Tea / coffee and mince pies will be served on arrival followed by a delicious 3  course dinner with all the festive trimmings, entertainment and sherry or wine with dinner. A roll and cake will be packed up to take home with you too. Adults are £15, children £7.50 and booking is essential. Please call Mary Edney on 07759 665451 for more details. Please spread the word amongst anyone you think would benefit from some special Christmas cheer too.

We have planned our tabletop sales for next year, and will be reverting back to holding them on a Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm. Pitches will remain at £8 and will need to be booked in the usual way through the office on 02392 467562. The first one of 2014 will be on February 8th, with sales to follow in April, June, October, November and December.

We are holding a food hygiene course, aimed at anyone working or about to work in the catering industry where food is prepared, cooked or handled. This is a level 2 certificate and a recognised qualification and is also very useful for all sorts of people that provide food or refreshments of any kind within their club, group, society or organisation. On completion of the course, you will have knowledge in Food Safety Hazards and the Law; Temperature Control; Refrigeration; Cooking; Food Handling; Safe Storage: Cleaning and Food Premises and Equipment. A short multiple choice exam will be held at end of the day. The date of this one is Monday 27th January from 9.30-4.30pm (bring a packed lunch.)

Would you know what to do in an emergency? Come and brush up on your basic emergency first aid skills at our session on Monday 10th February 2014 from 10-12.30pm. The course will look at what to do in an emergency and how to look after an unconscious casualty, there will be a demonstration of CPR with a chance for all participants to have a go. Participants will learn how to deal with shock, major bleeds, heart attack and strokes. The trainer is registered with the Health & Safety Executive, and you will receive a certificate of attendance.

No prior knowledge is necessary for either course, and they are both really well subsidised by Community First so we are able to offer the First Aid at a very low cost of £5 each, and £30 for the Food Hygiene, which also includes tea / coffee. Please contact Tania Jones at the Community Centre for a booking form on 023 9246 7562.

There is lots more news and information on our website www.hicca.co.uk including details of forthcoming coach trips, monthly competition and events.
