LOCAL ARTISTS’ SHOWCASE – featuring DAVID WEBB PAINTINGS

Until Saturday 22 March 2014
Rolling hills, picturesque towns and earthy woodlands are the subjects of Sussex based painter David Webb. Sketching in the landscape David captures the essence of a place which he then works up into vivid painting in his studio. Influenced by impressionism and expressionism, David’s work is highly atmospheric. This exhibition will transport you from the Sussex Downs to Cumbrian fishing towns and beyond.

and…IN THE CABINETS – SANDIE DIXON AND BEKKY MAY CERAMICS

To compliment David Webb’s beautiful paintings the Sadler Cabinets are host to two local ceramicists who share the same starting point. Sandie Dixon’s bright and light hearted pieces feature quaysides, harbours and beach huts, largely inspired by summer sailing excursions along the South Coast. Sandie’s earthenware pieces are thrown on a wheel and decorated with paper resist and graffito techniques.

Bekky May takes the textures of the countryside and the rich tones of the Sussex coast as her inspiration. Her simple forms are created using slabs of stoneware clay and reflect the tranquillity of her surroundings.

Whilst all three artists embark from the same point their creative journeys have led them to very different but equally impressive destinations.
